Spring Soccer 2012

The boys both played soccer in April and May.  Oscar turned eight in February so he played on a team with children who were eight and nine.  His coaches were the same from last fall.

Basketball 2012

The boys both played team basketball this past winter.  Oscar was one of the youngest boys on his team.  Although his 8th birthday was two weeks before the end of the season, the rules required him to play on a team with 8 and 9 year-old boys.

Calvin played with the 3-to-5 year-old children.  His group did not play weekly games; instead, the focus was on skills development.  Calvin was supposed to have one game at the end of the season so I was waiting for that occasion to take pictures.  Then the other parents voted to cancel the game.  So I do not have any photos of Calvin playing basketball this year.  Calvin will be six in October so he will play with boys who are 6 and 7 this coming winter.

These photos are from January and February 2012.

White Wings basketball

The wife of one of my coworkers is a cheerleader for the Hanau White Wings (a professional basketball team based out of a medium-sized town about 15 miles east of Frankfurt).  Tiffany (the cheerleader) noticed that two of the players on the basketball team were Americans and in talking with them and their wives, the topic came up that both of them (Chris Miles and Logan Magnusson) had played college basketball together at BYU.  Jamie (the coworker) mentioned this to me at work since he thought I might be interested in seeing them play (I was).

Soccer, Fall 2011

The boys played soccer again this fall.  The league is sponsored by the local army base with volunteer coaches.  Each team gets to choose its own team name.  Oscar's team was "The Dragons" and Calvin's team was "The Little Green Monsters".  Calvin's coach was somebody we know from church.

Army Basketball 2011

The boys were both on basketball teams again this winter.  The Army's Child, Youth, and School Services (CYS) office organizes these recreational sports for children.  Oscar played on a team for ages 6 and 7 while Calvin played on a team for ages 3, 4, and 5.

Oscar got a certificate at the end of the season party.

Calvin's team got a quick lesson on defense before their last game.
Initially, Calvin did a nice job playing defense the way the coaches taught him.
But after a while he opted for a much more effective version of defense.
 Calvin scores a basket!
Lining up for high fives after the game.
